Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my yearly note :) lol
For 4 yrs. now we have seen people come and go and come back again...this is opensim and as much as some may take offense to this it’s really ok...heck even I have gone to SL and back to my own grid...lol. It’s the freedom we love, for us to be able to see others who don't want to come over to grids we're on or we belong to, and as a Canadian Grid if I didn't respect that freedom I wouldn't be much of a Canadian now would I lol.
The GCG has gone from only having 2 or 3 people living on it to over 800 to now back to close to 400 again. So, as you can see it will always go up and down, just like any grid. But new people join every day and everyday people come back to visit.
Now, lives change every day and we have seen that over the years...we have even lost some really good people who have passed away in real life and they will never be forgotten.
I have had my own ups and downs in the past 4 yrs. But I have never stopped caring.
I always do my best with what I have to work with at any cost to me. I LOVE my grid you all know that by now lol. I also love the people who have helped us through the years.
Some have moved on to other grids and have either gotten busy in real life or just plain didn't feel like doing it anymore and I totally get that lol.
But they too need to know that it was never misplaced nor forgotten.
I've had to take a good look at what was going on with the grid and what I needed to do to make sure we stay alive and well, up to date. I've had to ask those paying lower than normal regions to put in a bit more, for not just the grids expenses growing, but for everyone living here…because regions paid is what keeps our servers going...and keeping our servers going keeps our grid going.
Without paid regions there would be no servers, no Terry Ford or a grid for that matter...it’s as simple as that. Servers and Tech support does not come free in the real life, unfortunately.
This is why I have always asked to support your grid you love by helping out in buying regions.
Trust me it goes a long way to help us stay alive for all of us.
Myself I could easily just grab a server and have a few friends on it like before, but I am doing this, and with your help of buying regions we are creating a community here and that to me is better than 6 or 7 people on a server lol.
We are actually in the process right now...Terry and I, of updating all the good servers with the new code...the exact new code he now has on his grid.
Not only are we doing that but as Terry mentioned we will have the exact same code and setup of regions just like he has it. So, this is great news!
What I do miss though is taking care of things again, my friends here and having a small community base like the one we have now...it's so nice to be able to go around to others regions and look after everyone on a personal basis again like I did when I first started the GCG.
This coincides with my next explanation...
I will be letting go the Live Chat support feature on our website and I will be going back to the way we did support before online going to me handling all the support and landing area. I do NOT want to see cookie go by all means she is an amazing woman and works very hard for everyone we all know that. I will just be going back to basics just like we use to. I have to start taking the GCG and doing what I use to when I ran it. I still love the help when it comes to volunteers, which I hope Cookie will still do, but that’s really all I should be asking from anyone. I shouldn’t be expecting others to completely look after things for me.
Going back to basics I believe will be good for us here...like we use to do...and be.
The hyper grid WILL be staying open for ALL grids as well.
We are NOT closing lol...GOD no! lol...the only way I'll ever shut down this grid is if
everyone left lol...so no lol.
I'll try to put some other rumors to rest while I'm here lol...
I do NOT ever delete a region on someone lol...everyone has from the day they pay
their tier payment they have 30 days to pay their next one...then if it’s not paid
on their next 30-day payday I send out a reminder in world to them...unless their messages are capped I can't...then I send out an email to their PayPal email that’s a legit email registered to PayPal supposedly lol...and give them an additional 7 days.
If by 38 days they haven’t paid then yes, I need to make room for those paying on time.
What happens is then someone will come to me saying OMG my region is gone and I’ll explain to them why and if they want to just continue with paying I reload their region for them and their oar at no charge...simple.
The price change was NOT for everyone...it was only to those that started when we had only one server and no Terry and no backup servers and no core servers...it added up after we got a tech helper more storage servers and core servers and with these regions only paying 2.75US for a 15000-prim region from back in 2014...I just couldn’t do it anymore for them.
They understood completely and we moved on...some thought I wanted prices raised for everyone lol. This was not the case...but hey that’s rumors for you lol. So, some left thinking their prices were going up which was not the case at all. And when I mentioned that it helps if others let go of their regions to upgrade is because that would put less stress on each server in turn would also help the rest of the grid.
There are also some that believe that I myself should be online all the time and if not that I don't care lol...this is a funny one to me because I don't know of any grid owner that talks, does polls, checks on others in world, DJs for events, mingles and socializes with their own grid residents.
If I am never in world it’s not because I don't love all of you or the grid it’s because I’m running a grid lol.
All these rumors that go on I believe happen BECAUSE I am in world alot. Most grid owners have others do their support and such of handling tickets and issues so that they don't get their hands dirty. They don't end up getting caught in that drama of rumors and they stay out of ears. I can't do that...lol. I have actual friends in here...I love my virtual life more than being a grid owner lol.
So, it’s inevitable to not get involved with what goes on and being the grid owner makes it worse.
But please know this...I don't do this because I have to or need to.
I'm financially secure and older and very happy in real life. I do ALL of this because I love the GCG and all the people in it and helping others to me is rewarding. I do the same in real life.
I would never do anything intentionally to harm or hurt anyone...that’s just not me.
I can't be a crook, I can't be conniving, I can't even be strict with this sometimes because someone will come to me and give those puppy eyes and I cave in lol...it’s just not in me to hurt people.
But like my Dad told me a long time...you can’t please everyone...and sometimes I wish I could.
I have asked Marianna to post this on our magazine because I truly believe you need to know just as much as I hear it, what’s going on and what I would like to do from here on in.
I miss our old days as a community...not so commercialized and it’s there again...and so I need to make just a few more changes to get it there again starting with only me looking after things.
As it should be.
Thank you for reading...
Thank you for supporting the GCG
and thank you for being a part of my life as well.

Shirah Bare has been working on her place Littlespell, a place she says is of the North. Waterfalls, mountains, lakes, aurora borealis, and animals all lend itself to the feeling of the North. A medieval village dots the landscape, when I asked Shirah what was her inspiration, she shared, "so for me medieval have always been close to my heart really". It definitely shows in all the details. When you arrive at welcome landing you are greeted with dancing waterfall display and a place to come together for dance and she even has games in mind with a chessboard. Shirah will be opening soon for Roleplay and community events. If you would like a tour of Littlespell, please contact Shirah anytime.
Lark Nocturne started her real life on the stage at the age of four when Miss Peggy (of Miss Peggy's dance studio in Saratoga Springs) selected her to sing and tap dance "My Heart Belongs To Daddy" in her studio's gala summer show of 1965. From that day onward, Lark has sung, danced and acted every chance she has gotten. Now she is just a *few* decades older and she brings her voice and her love for singing to SL. Along the way, she earned her doctorate in voice, taught singing at a major midwestern University, birthed a brilliant young author, and married well. Now, she lives in Florida with her husband, whom she met in SL in another av. She is happy in love, life, and song.
P.S. Lark is an alt for Freda Frostbite. If you know Freda, you know Lark. Send her a friend request! (Jezebel Magic, of the JezeBelles Dancers is another of Freda's alts.)

The Great Canadian Cabin is the heart of the Great Canadian Grid. It was started by Roddie Macchi in Second Life on September 23rd, 2009 as Roddie’s Cabin. It evolved and grew on SL as a hangout for Canadians. As more and more people gathered at the cabin, Roddie expanded the space and activities into an entire parcel.
This SL community for Canadians inspired the idea for the Great Canadian Grid. When Roddie started The Great Canadian Grid, the cabin was set up here as well, mirroring the SL community as the grid community began to grow. It is still a beloved region here where anyone can go to relax. Our community is more international now and that has just added diversity and amazing energy to the source. It emulates the country of Canada, as we are a country where many nations have come together, welcoming and celebrating all cultures and traditions. You don’t need to be a Canadian to make a home in the Great Canadian Grid.
When I joined The Great Canadian Grid the landing point for coming in as a shiny new avatar was the Great Canadian Cabin. As a Canadian, the region made me feel immediately at home. I walked around a bit and saw a Canada post box and had to laugh and then walked a bit further and saw the Tim Hortons, a perfectly replicated Timmies I might add too. It’s like a little lake side town in Ontario. There are details like the old train, the fire pit, and horses you can actually ride that make this region very multifaceted. And of course there is an outdoor concert stage and a pub with plenty of room to party.
As a kid our family was connected to a cabin far less fancy than what Roddie has going on. My family of origin was complicated and frequently conflicted in ways that caused lasting disrepair. It was no one person’s fault, but it made holidays something to “get through” as opposed to enjoy, except at the cabin. For some reason those trees and rocks and that seemingly endless water and the big beautiful sky around it made everyone kinder to each other for a little while at least. It’s made me always see cabin’s as safe places to be who you are, safe places for the heart to be whole. It’s a place apart from all of the stress in life and relationships than can break you.
You wouldn’t think you could recreate this in virtual worlds, but you can, and we have it here in GCG to connect to anytime we want. I actually go to the cabin fairly often. I don’t always tell people so I’m there on my own frequently. Of course, now that I’m promoting it I might not be, and that’s OK too because GCG is my chosen family. You don’t get to choose the one you’re born into, but we do get to choose this one, and it’s pretty awesome. Thanks, Roddie, for sharing your home with all of us.
