Lately, I’ve been suffering from a small case of the January Blues. This dreary weather has me dragging, but thankfully I’ve found the perfect cure—a little vitamin D. Upon seeing the news that Marianna has moved Monentes Jewelry to a new location at Bridgemere—Carnelian Bay, and that it has surfing and sailing to boot—I knew I had to take a visit.
After taking the teleport to the new store location, fly or run down toward the sandy bay. Once there, you’ll find a variety of boards, boats, and beach chairs. I tried my hand at surfing and after several attempts, I even managed to stand up on the board a few times.
There’s also a little green catamaran for two. Find a willing victim err… I mean, partner, and try not to crash. (Max and I may have ended up shipwrecked on a small island.) Don’t worry too much if you do, though because they automatically return to the correct spot.
Once you’ve exhausted yourself, you can lay down on one of the shady lounge chairs or stretch out on the beach. Personally, I chose the latter option and soaked up the wonderful rays. Closing my eyes, I listened to the waves lapping at the shore, and daydreamed of summer.
To wrap up our beach day, I sat with Max in the Adirondack chairs by the fire. The crackling fire kept us warm as the sun began to set. Looking up at the stars, we tried—to no avail—to find some constellations.
I can say with complete confidence that I have found paradise in this virtual world and this is most certainly it.

Welcome to the opening of our Persian-styled Arabian Nights Ballroom!
Tuesday, January 30th kicking off at 12pm (midday GCG Time).
The background music - playing when there are no artists on stage - is Modern Arabian dance, having many western music influences.
You will feel most comfortable in formal dress but there is no hard and fast rule about this - we are happy to have people enjoy the luxurious surroundings created by Shirah Bare.
Planned future events will be "Tribute Evenings" featuring truly classic bands and musicians. Among these are planned "Mainly Bee Gees", "Mainly Nightwish" and " Mainly Queen". And in between will be the best ever songs from all decades and genres. These evenings will be publicized in advance.
If you'd like to stroll around the ballroom grounds you are welcome and maybe wander into the desert to see the Bedouin pueblos!
DJ Rain from Second Life will be entertaining us with her unique style and music. We are hoping to have a live singer to follow Rain but if not, Mac the Sax will DJ from his vast music selection of music from the past 50 years. Requests will also be welcomed!
We hope you will come and enjoy!

Well here we all are, back on GCG at the start of another great year for our grid. I was curious about some new ideas and builds people are doing.
I took some time to check up on a couple of amazing builds to feature for this month's article
The first one has been an ongoing labour of love for Bec Jigsaw.
She tends to call it "the monster" as it is a massive build! Each area is of a hotel that is called The Chelsea Hotel.
The Chelsea was opened in 1884 by the dreamer/creator Philip Hubert. In finding a name for her build on GCG, Bec said "I have been calling it the Monster even before I laid the first prim, so of course Amara to the rescue and here, you have The Kelsey".
The Kelsey is 12 stories high. The street floor will have as you go in a big fireplace and to the right the Lady's Waiting Room. Go down the one hallway to the right and there will be a Private dining room/ball room and a managers office. Go down the other hallway to the left and you will find another private dining room/ballroom, barbershop/men’s clothing, gentleman’s club. Behind the servant doors will be a laundry, wine room, bakery/produce, butcher, and a kitchen which serves all in The Kelsey that wish it. At the very end on the outside will be a public restaurant.
Floors 2 through 10 have 8 apartments on each level with different various configurations. Some will have kitchens many will have bathrooms but for the most part you won’t see a toilet in most as that was unseemly for the upper class. And others did not trust the invention of the toilet at that time.
Floor 11 will have 7 artist studios, 4 Bachelor/Bachelorette Apartments, Male servant quarters, Female servant quarters and a class room.
On the 12th floor Philip's dream is where she hopes to shine. His dream was that to be above the smoke and smog you will find a bit of paradise of green and trees with park benches and dancing areas. There are 3 little buildings the one in the middle is a hospital so loved ones could recuperate while family visited them. Remember, this was during the Victorian Era so tuberculosis and other such sickness often prevailed. The other two will be little houses.
In total there will be approximately 85 apartments, 4 artist studios, Male servant quarters, Female servant quarters, 1 class room, possible clinic, 2 dining room/ballrooms, Gentleman’s room, Ladies waiting room, laundry, Wine Cellar, Produce/Bakery, Butcher, Kitchen, and a management office and public restaurant.
Bec has been painstakingly working on this build for quite a while now. Each room has different wallpaper and decor to suit the era. She has spared no details!
I am certain that when she has finally finished it will be the most amazing place to visit, even to roleplay perhaps. Although the build has not been completed, and due to the extensive build, it may take a while, but everyone is welcome to go have a look as it develops.
Bec Jigsaw, your dream is amazing and I can't wait to see the completion. You give so much to our awesome grid, and I give you a warm Thank you Bec for sharing your wonderful build with us all.
The second build I visited is called Herring Neck. This land belongs and has been lovingly built by Roberto Viking.
This land has been designed to be a quaint Newfoundland town that his maternal grandparents were from.
Herring Neck and Joe Batt's Arm is in the northeast corner of Newfoundland.
Roberto did some photo research of those areas (which are just a few miles apart) to help with the designs as he wanted to try to give a realistic sense of the place.
During my tour, he showed me a map in the office of Kearley Brothers, which shows where in NF the towns are. It is quite fascinating to see that this is a build that is quite true to the area in real life.
This is a complete town, with new areas being worked on as well. Currently he has been building some new townhouses that are true to the colourful seaside builds of the East Coast.
A walk around the town gives you the feel of being there, with everything a town needs including the local post office.
In the sky, another wonderful area is the Road Test Cafe, and a series of roads you can drive on. Beside the cafe there are a nice selections of vehicles you can have for free to drive around in. I got to go on a driving tour and I loved how it seemed so realistic and fun.
Roberto has proved to be an excellent builder with a very true to life build of part of his family history. I would suggest everyone take some time for a visit!
Thank you Roberto Viking for your wonderful story about your family history and sharing this vision and amazing build with all of us.
Lite House taught me that boating is great here at Great Canadian Grid, our boats and jet skis do cross regions!
He explained, some ask "Why am I having issues with Sim Crossings while boating or using a vehicle?" There are many variables, and one needs to make sure their script is a crossing script.
Also, you need to make sure, your region is set for object entry and scripts active. If your boat sinks you are using the incorrect script.
Lite rezzed a great little Chris Craft boat, and let me take it out on the bay, pure heaven :) This little gem not only looks great, it does in fact cross regions. Just make sure to detatch AO prior to crossing. You can find all the information about opensim boating and vehicle crossing scripts online, with a search. Thank you Lite House for helping to make my boating dreams a reality :)

Many come to GCG with hopes and dreams, the desire to build the region they have longed to create. With prices low and prims in abundance, there really is no limit to your imagination. With friendly loving people of the grid, learning, teaching and sharing of ideas, makes that dream become a reality.
Many come to grid and get everything all set up and feel at home, when a new grid pops up on the horizon. They begin to feel that wanderlust again, that tickling feeling we all get to venture out and explore.
With all the new grids that seem to reseed and germinate with the blowing wind, I cannot keep up with them all. I found a secret to longevity at any grid you call home, so that your roots can deepen and your investments flourish. That is, to not bail off the grid you are on when a new grid pops up, instead, if you feel that desire just use the opensim hypergrid to explore.
If you pull out and move each time a new grid pops up trying to obtain that dream or that wealth you desire, you will be defeating your own purpose. Isn’t it better to travel light? Than it is to pack up your entire home and move? Think about it, keep your home permanent in a loving home grid, with friends who become family, and your store will also become a landmark instead of being gone in the wind. Think about all that work you put into everything. We all get the urge to travel, so please do, but always keep your home with us, family.
If you do venture to far off, no worries, we will keep the light on for you.

Hey there!...and welcome to GCG
Also Welcome Back to all those who have been coming back!!
As some of you are aware I have been hinting at the fact that I like how our tight
little community is. And that being that big drama type grid we once were before and now we
are not! thank god...I have found the time to help everyone once again...:) being the size that we are at.
So on that note....I will not be purchasing anymore servers.
We are now at the best stable code we can be at, and the least amount of tickets I have
ever seen lol. So to me this is great!...were running great...good friends...great grid.
I have decided to stop selling regions once the servers from those who have left are full.
Meaning those who have left...are coming back again. But I will not be purchasing more servers to accomodate for more. I like how our community is.
We can purchase anything we want here from Kitely Market...which is great!
And so I will be leaving a total of how many are left on our websites Buying Land page.
Once they are gone thats it!...:) Guess what, they are gone! But if you wish to go on a waiting list in case someone decides to leave GCG then please Email us at:
As of now... we are at 100% capacity!
58 Place is now open! A small intimate club with a gaming room, Cigars and Poker, next door!
The 58 Place jazz room is small. quiet, and intimate. Cigars and Poker is a great place to bring your friends for a game of poker or greedy! Smoke complimentary cigars while you are gaming! So when you're in the mood to listen to some great music or go gaming with your buddies, 58 Place is the place for you!
